Sega Saturn - USB
DataLink
About Me
I have been a Sega Saturn owner since 1995. Even though I have
bought a few game consoles since, the Saturn is still my favorite system.
My background involves over 15 years of experience in the field of
electrical engineering. Luckily, over the course of my work experience,
I have been exposed to all of the fields necessary to complete this project:
Circuit Design, Printed Circuit Board Layout, Microcontroller Programming,
and Windows programming.
I am not making much money from selling this DataLink device. I
am doing it as a hobby, and to help out my fellow Saturn users. Action
Replay Plus cards are great, but they may occasionally decide to erase all
of your game-saves. It is definately a good idea to back them up once
in a while.
This project started its life when my Action Replay Plus cartridge decided
to die. I lost 10 years worth of game-saves. I looked around
to find a device that could transfer game-saves, using current PC
hardware/software. Not finding anything, I decided to design my own.
After getting game-save transfers to work, I added the capability to
download homebrew games to the Saturn. I also have future software
updates in mind, and will post them on this website as they are completed.
However, I am doing this work in my spare time, so I can't make any promises
for future new functionalities.
Customer Feedback
Hopefully, there are still some videogamers out there playing Saturn
who will find this device useful. The following feedback has been given
to me from people who have purchased this DataLink device:
-
I have been wanting something like this for many
years... I was the first to purchase one from gameofyou and I'm putting it
through its paces now. I can verify it does work, is pretty user friendly,
well made, easy to hook up and has good documentation.
-
Today, I could test the DataLink, and it works !
I tested the 3 features with a GameShark card and model 1 european Saturn.
Anyway, using the DataLink for homebrew is by far more convenient than burning
cdrw, thanks a lot !!
-
I got my unit in the mail yesterday. Works like
a charm.
-
I would like to thank GameofYou for the great device...
and now I can finally back up all my saves and store them onto a yummy cd
or dvd and put into a fireproof safe.
-
At last, I've tested the DataLink and it worked
perfectly, I followed the instructions and had no problems whatsoever. Many
thanks for the effort put into making this device.
-
The device is very reliable, stable and easy to
use. Very useful, I'm glad that I finally got my hands on such a nice
solution.

I received your package yesterday. I installed the
driver and the Windows application, and everything functioned perfectly.
I was able to transfer my savegames from the Saturn to the computer and put
them in a safe place. Also I tried some small games and applications for
the Saturn, without having to waste CD-Rs. It's very useful, thanks for designing
and creating this device.
Thanks
I would like to thank SegaXtreme for hosting a vast amount of technical
information on the Saturn, which was extremely helpful. Also, I would
like to thank "legalize freedom!" for his thorough testing during the test
phase. Most of all, I would like to thank Charles MacDonald
(http://cgfm2.emuviews.com),
whose excellent documentation on the operation of the ARP cart made this
project possible.
